I’m Dianne Thompson. I lived on a farm when I was born. My father raised hogs and I can remember
going to the barn to see them. I was three years old when my father was in a car accident and was not
able to work for a year. Once he was well, my parents sold the farm and Dad became a carpenter. My
grandparents also had a small dairy farm when I was very young. I missed both farms after they were
gone and still dream at night about being there.
I have always loved farms and animals and had the need to grow things. Gardening took care of that need for a long time, but I always longed to have a hobby farm. Just before turning 50, I decided that if I was ever going to raise animals, I had better start now. Being a single female, I researched livestock that would be easy for me to manage on the 4 acre property I owned. I read about Kunekune pigs and was very curious about them. I went to visit Tammy Keller and her Kunekunes at Ivanleigh Farms in Ontario and was hooked! In the fall of 2018, I bought my first four Kunekune pigs. The next spring, I sold my property and bought a 25-acre hobby farm and my herd started to grow.
In 2020, the year that most people love to hate because of Covid, I met a wonderful man, Allan MacLean, a semi-retired farmer. In the fall of 2021, I sold my farm and the pigs and I moved to Allan’s farm in Clyde River. I also bought four more pigs from Ivanleigh Farms.
Allan and I married in the summer of 2022 and together we live the life of my dreams, with me being a pig farmer!
I love Kunekune pigs and I hope you’ll continue to go through our website to learn why these pigs are pork perfection!
